Gram dal milling is an important industry supplying flour of gram dal (Besan) to mankind. Flour milling has been known from a very early date. Besan is used for day to day food products in houses of rich and poor for variety of tastes and has several uses across the country and throughout the year. It is made from Gram dal and is very popular especially in Western part of the country. It is used in sweet as well as spicy food and snacks preparations. This project can be set up in many States of India as Gram Dal is cultivated almost throughout the country. The preferred locations are Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Gram Flour (Besan) is the most common flour used by the sweet makers, hotels and households for various preparations. Many food items are prepared by addition of spices, sugar etc. It has got fairly long shelf-life. Certification under the PFA Act is necessary.

Market potential of coconut shell powder

Indians by nature are fond of sweet as well as spicy food and Gram flour which is popularly known as "Besan" is an important ingredient in such preparations. It is a versatile product used in many preparations round the year. Apart from individual households, there are some institutional bulk consumers like restaurants, other eateries, hostels and canteens, clubs, caterers, etc. It is a very commonly used item in the Indian kitchens and thus enjoys continuous market throughout the year. It is being manufactured in several States including Gujarat. Thus there will be competition from the existing manufacturers. Market for this product is growing continuously due to more and more applications, increasing population and its easy availability.
Hence, a new entrant has to plan marketing strategy systematically ensuring adequate network backed up by good quality and competitive price. It is envisaged that initially the unit would concentrate on bulk supplies to make initial inroads in market and thereafter gradually enter the consumer market.

Besan manufacturing process

The process of manufacturing quality besan or gram flour involves four major processes, as
explained below.

  • Dal Making - mini dal mills is use for making carrying different processes cleaning and grading, pitting, pre-treatment with oil & water, conditioning, de- husking & splitting. for more detils please clik here
  • Cleaning - Eliminate pebbles, broken grains and other impurities from Gram. for more details please click here
  • Conditioning - Based on physical properties of gram dal, remove other coloured gram halves. Water content, if any, should be removed by sun-drying to maintain minimum 12 to 14% moisture.
  • Milling ( Grinding ) - The gradual milling system should be adopted for milling and operation consists of breaking, scalping and purification, reduction and dressing.

We have three types of pulverizers to offer you for the grinding of bangel grams as under

1. Techno Wings Mini pulverizer is a very simple type of pulverizer. The grinding chamber consists of a serrated ratchet liner on top, and screen at the bottom for classification. Feed material is passed into grinding chamber through a hopper manually. The ground power is collected in a through fitted below the screen, depending on the desired fineness, the number of operations could be 2 or 3 in different types of sieves.

During the grinding process, a small quantity of air is generated, to remove this air a Polyester dust bag is fixed below the through and the other end of the bag is hung at a height, also acting like a dust collector.

  • Finishing - Sometimes, finished excellent flour (besan) is mixed to obtain a standard and uniform desired properties, characteristics and colour.
    The process is simple compared to wheat, rice, maize milling units.

Operating principle of coconut sheel Pulveriser

The techno wings impact pulveriser consists of and encased rotor-carrying swing hammers, whizzed classifier for finesse regulation and blower fan mounted on a solid shaft. Raw material from the feed hopper enters manually or automatically roll feeder and as the feeder and as the feeder pockets rotate spills into the grinding chamber. The impact to the hammers on the feed material against the liner plates reduces it into fine powder. The ground material carried towards the whizzed classifier for clarification and the finesse regulators (whizzed classifier) and returns to the grinding chamber for further grinding reject the oversize particles. Classified material then conveyed into the cyclone for collection and bagging. A dust collector provided in the system for ensuring dustless operation and no loss of ground powder.

Construction of coconut sheel Pulveriser


Vertical model air swept totally enclosed, high-speed swing hammer type grinding mill with whizzer air classifier.


The main body is made of heavy duty cast iron, machined with top covers bolted together for easy opening and cleaning or for inspection. Every portion in the machine, which meets the material, lined with high-grade steel plates.


An automatic rotary feeder gear driven from the main shaft with feed control mechanism is optional.


The striking face of the crushing chamber lined with hard chilled iron replaceable. Chamber plates keeping in view of the proper protection to given to the chamber from the wear and tear, which ensures ever - losing.


Thick mild steel-machined plates mounted on main shaft.


Best double row self-aligning ball bearings in cast iron housing with suitable grease cups for lubrication is supply with all impact pulveriser.


Forged alloy steel, and dynamical balanced hammer is supply with the machine (stainless steel 304 is optional).


Heavy duty paddle type with changeable blades and arms (impellers) cyclone mild steel sheet fabricated, welded throughout cones.

Dust collector

Top and bottom halves of mild steel sheet to interconnect by cotton cloth dust bags.


All interconnection mild steel pipes supplied with loose flanges to facilitate easy erection opening and cleaning.


A bearing are provided with oil cup, grease cup for heavy lubrication.
